Up until now I used google docs or word for writing, they having all the features of a top class word editor.
The manuscript is a bit of a game changer because it allows you to reference all campfire constructs from the sidebar while you write. The things holding it back for me personally are:
1. The ability to create bulleted lists (something I use a lot for plotting, planning). While I understand that there is a separate module for this, in practice I rarely end up constructing on that. Rather I simply write a rough draft of my plot progression and then transfer it to the module. The manuscript can be used for initial drafts where things like bullet lists etc are incredibly useful.
2. Tables. - When writing litRPG or for tabletop/DnD (Of which campfire is awesome given species, magic system modules etc.) Tables are incredibly important.
Note the above two features already exist elsewhere on campfire so I this would just be bringing them to the manuscript model.
3. Suggestion Mode similar to gdocs. This is different from commenting, it essentially works similar to track changes. This is doubly important if this is to one day be something used to publish written works. Most documents are shared with an editor to edit, and edits always need to be done with suggestion mode/Track changes
4. History - Many times I've written things, deleted them and a week later been super glad for history. Not only does this keep lost work/accidently deleted text, it also has saved work I've disliked, gotten rid of and come back to again numerous times
These are all massive Quality of Life updates, but also important I think for a module that would replace all other writing software for an end-to-end writing to publish workflow.
Thanks for listening and hope these suggestions can improve the manuscript module!

+1 for suggestion mode/track changes! So important when you have someone alpha/beta/edit for you!

I'd also really love a suggestion mode at some point

You can already create lists in the Manuscript Module! Just highlight the text you want to make a list and click the bulleted list button (img)
Suggestion mode is something we'd definitely like to do, but it's not a simple change so we haven't had time for that yet. I'd love to make it happen this year but I can't promise anything.
As for the others, I'm making a note of them, but I can't really comment on them at the moment.
